Battery packs may be the cure for short battery life

Wearable technology is on the rise, but their battery life may be leaving something to be desired.

Wearables come in many forms, ranging from high-tech glasses that literally change the way people see the world, to simple wrist watches that act as stripped down smartphones. One thing that all wearable devices, and all mobile technology in general, share is their limited battery life. Mobile devices are notoriously energy hungry depending on how they are being used and this has been a thorn in the side of many people for years.

Part of the issue has to do with the batteries that are being used to power mobile devices. Most modern devices are equipped with lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are a significant technological improvement over older batteries that had been used to charge mobile devices, but they still have limited energy capacity. Many cutting edge devices have devices whose battery life ranges from 12 to 15 hours. This is heavily dependent on how the devices are used, of course. If users are streaming media, such as videos, battery life is falls dramatically. Short battery life can be a problem for some people, and the solution to this problem could be battery packs.

Battery packs also referred to as portable chargers.

These packs contain an multiple identical batteries, which can be recharged in the same way as conventional mobile devices. The advantage of battery packs is that they can be used with ease and the batteries can be switched out with little difficulty. They also come in a variety of sizes, though mobile devices benefit from small battery packs that are portable and less cumbersome than their larger counterparts. Portable chargers themselves are quite useful to those that travel frequently, as these chargers allow them to keep their batteries charged as often as is convenient.

Battery technology has vastly improved over the past few years.

The U.S. Department of Energy notes that batteries are becoming more capable of providing the energy that people need. These batteries are becoming thinner and discharge energy at a slower rate, making them ideal for wearable devices as well as others. There are also batteries that can be charged faster than their older counterparts. These so called “fast charge” batteries only take 30 minutes to fully charge, making them an attractive option to those that have become mobile-centric.

Battery packs may not be ideal for mobile users that do not travel frequently or have much need for energy,  but many are finding them quite useful regardless. Battery systems can be used for a wide variety of mobile devices, such as laptops, which makes them more versatile than conventional chargers designed for smartphones and wearable devices.
